This 4-week class is intended for teens (ages 12-17) on the autism spectrum (or with related neurodiversities) to practice social communication skills while having fun. The instructors will lead students in improv games. Improv games are a great way to practice verbal and non-verbal expression in a supportive environment.

If you are curious about improv and autism, click here to watch a video on a program for teens on the spectrum or here to read an article from The Chicago Tribune.

Dates: Saturdays Nov. 2-Nov. 23

Time: 10:30-12:00

Fundraiser: Feminist Improv Jan with Ms. Andry

Ms. Andry is an improv troupe whose mission is to create a safe space where we can shake off outdated gender roles and stereotypes in order to dig a little deeper and build up the community of female improvisors. Their “weapons” are inclusion, honesty, empathy, laughter and satire.

Every month they collect donations for an organization that contributes to a more inclusive Denver. In October, that organization is AllPRov!!

The show is free but donations are encouraged. Also, stop by the bar and have a Neurodiversi-TINI: a delicious cocktail. Half the proceeds from this special drink will go to AllProv until the end of October :-)

Upstaging Social Anxiety

This workshop is full. Please email erin@allprov.org if you’d like to be placed on a waitlist. We plan to offer similar workshops in the future. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the home page to find out about new workshops.

Upstaging Social Anxiety is an improv comedy-based workshop that helps participants to better manage stress and anxiety and feel more comfortable navigating social situations.

In a supportive environment, you will learn coping skills that will help you to better manage those uncomfortable feelings of anxiety that arise especially in social situations.  You will engage in tailored improv comedy exercises that are designed to help you gradually confront anxiety and challenge thoughts that fan the flames of fear.  Through the practice of improv comedy and re-enacting some worst-case social scenarios, you may begin to find some of your worries absurd...or even hilarious!

Please note that this is NOT a therapy group. It is a recreational workshop that does not take the place of mental health treatment.

About the Facilitator

Dr. Alison Sheesley is a passionate play therapist and very amateur improviser.  With advanced training in group facilitation and play therapy, she has worked with a wide variety of clients across the lifespan facing many different issues.  She also facilitates a group counseling experience as an adjunct professor at the University of Northern Colorado.

Who is this workshop for? Adults 18+ - previous improv experience is not necessary

Cost: Free! We offer this workshop freely so ALL may participate, regardless of income. We are able to do this because of donations. If you are able, please consider a tax-deductible donation.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. Please email erin@allprov.org if you’d like to be placed on a waitlist.
